Children and Families

Every family is different; families have different resources, live in different communities, and have different priorities. But all families deserve respect. The educational system, the family law system, and the child welfare system all have the potential to affect the lives of children and families experiencing poverty. Legal Action is working to ensure those systems are rooted in and guided by equity, justice, and compassion.

Our Values

  • Survivors of violence have the right to personal safety and autonomy.

  • Children have a right to an education that is responsive to their needs.

  • Children have the right to the support and care of their parents regardless of their parents’ marital status, immigration status, or residence.

  • Absent extenuating circumstances, children have the right to be raised by their parents. Furthermore, every parent has the right to be treated with respect, compassion, and transparency by the child welfare system.
